Video: What you should know about the Territorial Governance Facility

MGT, January 31, 2023.- Due to the need to manage their territories and the various threats and pressures they face, the indigenous peoples and local communities (PICL) have the urgent challenge of self-governance.

Thus, the territorial governance that they exercise to face these problems, manage and procure well-being or Good Living, encompasses aspects such as political, economic and cultural governance.

Therefore, the tasks of this exercise are to participate in the development of agreed Life Plans and their own surveillance systems, in enhancing their resources and stopping the loss of their customs and language, among others.

In order to accompany and strengthen this governance –despite the important challenges it entails– climate and conservation funds are demanded to flow to the territories, which is why the Territorial Governance Facility (TGF) was created; an initiative co-designed by indigenous organizations and the international organization Forest Trends.

The indigenous organizations are the Inter-Ethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Amazon (AIDESEP), the Mesoamerican Alliance of Peoples and Forests (AMPB), the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of the Ecuadorian Amazon (CONFENIAE) and the National Organization of Indigenous Peoples of the Colombian Amazon (OPIAC).
